Itinerary
Day 1 – Wheeling, WV – Oglebay Resort – Mansion Museum – Glass Museum – Dinner Show – Festival of Lights
Arrive in Wheeling, WV at the Oglebay Resort where you will be spending the night. Start with a tour of the Mansion Museum, once home to wealthy industrialist and philanthropist Earl W. Oglebay and family, is lavishly decorated for the holidays. Here you journey into the past entering a virtual treasure house of antiques and history that is dressed in all it holiday regalia. Then do a little Hilltop Shopping at Farmhouse Sweets & Treats. They specialize in chocolates and candy, regionally produced food products, and custom gift baskets. Kirke’s homemade ice cream served daily!
Next, visit the Carriage House Glass Museum. Witness the largest piece of cut lead crystal ever made- The Sweeney Punch Bowl. Standing five feet tall and weighing 225 pounds, this remarkable piece of Victorian artistry is world renowned. Experience over 3,000 examples of Wheeling glass made from 1829-1939 including cut lead crystal, Victorian art glass, peachblow glass, pattern and depression glass, Northwood’s carnival glass, and many other glass examples showcasing Ohio Valley history. You also have time to visit the Carriage House Glass Shop.
Tonight, enjoy the Festival of Lights Dinner Show held in the Wilson Lodge’s beautiful Glessner Auditorium. Start with a dinner buffet followed by live holiday Entertainment. (See show dates below) Afterwards, you meet your local guide for a Festival of Lights Tour. Identified as one of the best holiday light displays in the United States by countless travel companies and online publications, the Winter Festival of Lights features three hundred acres of twinkling lights over a six-mile drive. The dazzling display includes 90 lighted attractions boasting more than one million energy-efficient LED lights.
Day 2 – Oglebay Good Zoo’s Rockin’ Holiday Light Show – Depart for Home
After breakfast, enjoy Oglebay Good Zoo’s Rockin’ Holiday Light Show and indoor animal exhibits. This attraction includes an exciting animated music and LED light show on the patio, all of which is choreographed to beloved holiday music. Depart for home. (B)
