Itinerary

Day 1 – Saratoga Springs, NY

Arrive today in Saratoga Springs, NY where you enjoy a three-night stay at a local hotel.  Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 2 – Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway w/boxed lunch – Lake George Boat Tour – Saratoga Springs Course Horse Racing & Dinner

Today starts with a scenic ride on the Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway. This vintage train takes you on a 1.5 hour ride from Corinth to Greenfield to see the beauty of the Southern Adirondacks. Sit back and enjoy scenic views, wildlife and enjoy the ride like travelers of yesteryear.  A boxed lunch will be included today with your ride.

Next, enjoy a Lake George Boat Tour aboard the authentic Sternwheel Steamboat, Minne Ha Ha. Imagine the way people traveled the lake over 100 years ago! Step back in time, as the Calliope, powered by steam from the vessel’s boiler, serenades you while you board. Enjoy beautiful views of the Adirondack Mountains and see stately homes along the water’s edge.

Returning to Saratoga Springs, enjoy an evening of horse racing at the Saratoga Race Course. Dinner will also be included tonight at the Race Track. The Saratoga Race Course has unique features including a mineral spring, gazebo, shaded picnic grounds, fine dining, and top-quality vendors. The venue hosts some of the world’s best horses and most important races including the famous Travers Stakes. It is the third oldest race track/course in the US. It is typically open for racing from late July through early September. (B,L,D)

Day 3 – Ulysses S. Grant Cottage National Historic Site – Fort Ticonderoga – Lake George Dinner Theatre

This morning, visit the Ulysses S. Grant Cottage National Historic Site, the final home of Ulysses S. Grant, Civil War Commanding General of the U.S. Army, 18th U.S. President, and beloved American public figure.  President Ulysses S. Grant came to this Adirondack cottage to complete writing his memoirs shortly before passing away from throat cancer. After completing his memoir, President Grant died at the cottage on July 23, 1885.

Following a lunch stop on your own, the remainder of the day will be spent at Fort Ticonderoga.  At the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold realized that the British Fort Ticonderoga made an easy target for the American rebels. They captured the fort in 1775 with a band of Green Mountain Boys, only weeks after Lexington and Concord, making it America`s first victory in the Revolution.

Start with a guided tour and discover why Fort Ticonderoga was the key to the continent in the 18th century and gain an insider perspective on all there is to see and do during your visit!

Then enjoy a scenic cruise on the Carillon.  Enjoy the sweeping vistas of Vermont’s Green Mountains and New York’s Adirondack Mountains during a 75-minute narrated boat tour aboard the Carillon. From heroic tales of naval battles to sonar images of underwater shipwrecks and historic bridges, you’ll learn how the Hudson Champlain waterways defined the fate of North America in the 18th century.

After your cruise, your group will enjoy a self-guided tour of the King’s Garden. Step into the historic walled Colonial Revival Garden designed by one of America’s female landscape architects, Marian Kruger Coffin and thrill at the explosion of color and beauty as this flower garden hints at the historic echoes of this powerful place.

Explore the museum exhibits and visit the historic trades shops to see first-hand how garments and shoes were produced for the armies who occupied Ticonderoga.  Enjoy the 2pm artillery demonstration and discover the power of the cannon and how even in the North American wilderness, these technologically advanced weapons and trained artillerymen redefined warfare during the conquests for empire and liberty.

Tonight, enjoy the Lake George Dinner Theatre.  The Lake George Dinner Theatre is the most intimate, professional dinner theatre company in the US! Enjoy a delicious meal accompanied by a memorable live theatrical performance in a bistro-like setting. Return to Saratoga Springs following the show. (B,D)

Day 4 – Saratoga National Historic Park – Depart for Home

After breakfast, take a driving tour of Saratoga National Historical Park and the Saratoga Battlefield where the turning point of the American Revolution took place in 1777.  One of the most decisive American victories in the entire Revolutionary War, the Battle of Saratoga ended British General John Burgoyne’s attempt to control the Hudson River Valley and made General Benedict Arnold a hero celebrated across the colonies before his defection to the British brought his reputation crashing down. The battle also convinced the Court of King Louis XVI that the Americans could hold their own against the British Army, sealing the alliance between America and France.

Following the tour, depart for home. (B)
