In 1980, on the 100th day of the Iranian Hostage Crisis, Flynn had 100 flags hoisted along the avenue that leads to the cemetery to bring attention to the situation. One flag was raised every day until the hostages were released on January 21, 1981. They were released 444 days after they were taken hostage.
