Itinerary
Day 1 – Newport, RI
Arrive today in Newport, RI and check into your local hotel for a two-night stay. Dinner will be included this evening at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 2 – Gilded Age Newport Driving Tour – Lobsterfest Lunch & Matinee Show at Newport Playhouse
This morning after breakfast, meet your local guide for a Gilded Age Newport Driving Tour. During the Gilded Age, America’s wealthiest families flocked to the City by the Sea and its surrounding areas; making the area their summertime playground. Hear the stories of these mansions and their owners while exploring Historic Bellevue Avenue.
Next, head to the Newport Playhouse and Cabaret Restaurant for a Lobsterfest Lunch, a funny play and a fun-filled cabaret! (Available Select Dates June-Oct) Bring your appetite for delicious lobster, clam chowder and all the fixins’! Following lunch, enjoy a great matinee show on the Theatre’s Mainstage. The remainder of the day is yours to explore Newport on your own. Dinner is also on your own this evening. (B,L)
Day 3 – Marble House Tour – Depart for Home
After breakfast, tour the Marble House. William Vanderbilt built Marble House as a 39th birthday present for his wife, Alva. It was a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport’s subsequent transformation from a quiet summer colony of wooden houses to the legendary resort of opulent Gilded Age mansions.
Following the tour, depart for home. (B)
