Itinerary

Day 1 – Las Vegas, NV

Arrive today in Las Vegas, NV.  A motorcoach will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your Casino Hotel.  Enjoy a free evening to explore Las Vegas and enjoy dinner on your own.

Day 2 – Kingman, AZ – Arizona Route 66 Museum – Flagstaff, AZ – Guided Route 66 Tour

Today you motor into Kingman, AZ for the Arizona Route 66 Museum.  In the Historic Powerhouse this museum depicts the evolution of travel along the 35th parallel that became Route 66.

Brilliant murals, photos and life-size dioramas capture the various groups that traveled on what has come to be known as the Mother Road.  You are following Native American trade routes and the U. S. Army led survey expeditions.  Learn of settlers on their migration west and how this became the nation’s first federally funded wagon road.   Feel the hardship and despair of the dust bowl refugees as they journeyed to a better life in the 30’s. And how the road became Main Street America as the 50’s ushered in fun and excitement for Route 66 travelers.

Next, travel to Flagstaff, AZ where this afternoon you enjoy a guided Route 66 Flagstaff tour.  Route 66 runs right through the heart of this town where lots of the nostalgia and charm has been preserved.  On this tour, you will come across original diners, vintage motor lodges and murals that nod to the original road. As you explore the town, you will find many Route 66 landmarks including the Western Hill Motel that looks just as it did when it first opened its doors in the 1950s.

Your day ends with a two-night stay at the Drury Inn. Dinner is on your own this evening, but the group can take advantage of Drury’s 5:30 Kickback Happy Hour featuring a rotating menu of hot food and cold beverages. (B, HH)

Day 3 – Full Day Grand Canyon Tour – Black Bart’s Steakhouse, Saloon & Musical Revue

Today, enjoy a full day tour of Grand Canyon National Park with a local guide. Tour the South Rim of the Grand Canyon from the Desert View Watch Tower to Hermits Rest.  “One of the Wonders of the World,” Grand Canyon National Park hosts a vast variety of wildlife and scenic wonders. Learn about the geology and history of the canyon while taking in its breathtaking beauty at all the best view points along the South Rim including Grand Canyon Village.

Returning to Flagstaff, dinner is included at Black Bart’s Steakhouse, Saloon and Musical Revue. It’s a great meal and a truly unique dining experience. The talented waiters and waitresses perform a Musical Revue with songs from the 60s and 70s.  (B,D)

Day 4 – Stop in Seligman, AZ – Roy’s Motel & Café – Barstow, CA – Outlets at Barstow

Depart Flagstaff this morning and continue west on Route 66 with a stop today in Seligman, AZ. This quirky small town on a preserved section of Route 66 captures a vibrant slice of Americana.  Seligman remains as the starting point of the longest surviving section of America’s iconic road, which runs 160 miles to Topock, Arizona.

Seligman embraces yesteryear. Several colorful and quirky gift shops—including Angel & Vilma Delgadillo’s Original Route 66 Gift Shop, The Historic Seligman Sundries, Return to the 50s, Rt. 66 Hippie Cricket and The Rusty Bolt—sell soda shop classic Coca-Cola memorabilia, license plates and road signs, records best listened to while wearing a poodle skirt, James Dean iconography, and Elvis everything. Get your kicks and also, your knickknacks on Route 66.

Travel continues this afternoon with a stop at Roy’s Motel & Café in Amboy, CA. This historic site is on the National Trails Highway of U.S. Route 66 in the Mojave Desert town of Amboy in San Bernardino County, California. Roy’s Motel and Café is a 24-hour gas station, gift shop, and famous tourist attraction, due to its 1950s Googie-Style neon sign that can be seen for miles approaching the town. The town of Amboy has become something of a ghost town, but you can still get gas, snacks, and small versions of the neon sign in the shop.   So, enjoy a соld Rоutе 66-brаndеd rооt bееr, take a рhоtо with the rеѕtоrеd nеоn sign, or even ѕtаnd on the ісоnіс hіghwау.

End the day in Barstow, CA where the original Route 66 runs right down Main Street. This evening, you visit the Outlets at Barstow for dinner on own.  This “Diamond in the Desert” boasts clean facilities, an official California State Welcome Center, an on-site Food Court, and 38 retailers. (B)

Day 5 – Calico Ghost Town – Victorville, CA – California Route 66 Museum – Los Angeles – Santa Monica Pier

This morning is a hoot at the Calico Ghost Town Calico.  The town settled in 1881 gave miners a good living, but when silver lost its value in 1890’s it became a “ghost town.”  Today it features the Lucy Lane Museum, the Maggie Mine, Calico Odessa railroad, gold panning options and fourteen shops with unique gifts and flavors of the west.

Your next stop on Route 66 is Victorville, CA and the California Route 66 Museum. This interactive museum share Mother Road Memories in such settings as a 50’s Diner and a VW Love Bus complete with hippy wigs and sunglasses for that perfect selfie.

This afternoon you roll into Los Angeles for a two-night stay.  The day will end at the Santa Monica Pier which is also the end of historic Route 66.  The End of the Trail sign, placed in 2009, stands nearby at the Santa Monica Pier, a selfie-friendly spot next to the rides of Pacific Park.  Dinner is included at a local restaurant at the Pier.  You will also have free time for people watching and shopping. Day 6 – Hollywood – Beverly Hills – Grauman’s Chinese Theatre

Today, you enjoy a full day of Hollywood and Beverly Hills Sightseeing.  Starting with morning tour of Hollywood and Beverly Hills. You will see the Beaches, the Hollywood Sign, Mulholland Drive, Rodeo Drive, Bel Air, Sunset Strip and many Movie Star Homes.

Today’s incarnation of Mother Road is often hidden in plain sight too. In Los Angeles County, Route 66 lies along other famously named streets, such as Sunset Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd., including parts of Beverly Hills. On New Year’s Day each year, the Tournament of Roses Parade goes down Pasadena’s Colorado Blvd., another stretch of the original Route 66.

This afternoon includes Grauman’s Chinese Theater (now TLC Chinese Theater) the most famous movie theatre in the world. Known for the Hollywood Walk of Fame, featuring cement hand and footprints of major movie stars from past to present. Since 1927, it has been the home of the star powered red carpet movie premieres and special events, where Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars have come to watch their movies!

Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. (B,D)

Day 7 – Depart for Home

Today your group either transfers to the airport for homeward flights, or you turn your motorcoach eastward for the return journey. (B)
